3rd Paintball Tournament

This was in end of August, 2006. It was wet. Period....

It was a small tournament. Sort of invitational.. And it was played in lots of mud... Everywhere..
But the best thing is we were using mechanical marker.... Not to worry about the marker going 'kaput' on you. May be just a little bit.

There are 6 teams in the novice division and 6 in the beginner's. I played in the novice... Well, having held a marker before (in one corporate tournament) take me out of the beginner's division. But the rest of my team, all of them are season player by my standard.

They've been in a couple of tournaments. We went to play an exhibition match (courtesy of the organizer), and then played another 5 games. We qualify to the semi-finals but lost to the eventual champion. At this time I'm still using a rental mask, no proper paintball pant, etc. :((((

2nd Paintball Tournament

It was 3-on-3 tournament in conjunction with the National Day celebration. I was so excited (this being my 2nd ..ehemmm... tournament) I went for the briefing on behalf of a couple of friends. And to the team draw.

Guess what?? I'm not sure whether it's my luck/jinx, I'm playing on the very 1st game of the tournament. Newbies playing the 1st game on our 2nd outing.. What are the odds? Slim.... Yeah rite!!!

It was drizzling that morning. So, the tournament started late... by an hour. And we have to wait for the dignatory to officiate the game. Apart fr0m the marathon, BMX flat land etc. Lots of activities going on.

The thing is that the tournament is a knock-out competion. Well, we lost the first game that THAT'S IT.

My first ever paintball tournament

It was on early or mid August last year that I had a taste of paintball. It was a corporate game 7 on 7 to be precise ... capture the flag format.

At first I've got this internal e-mail, saying they gonna arrange a closed paintball tournament for the employees at the place I work at.

I say to myself, why not give it a try... So, I asked a few friends of mine and 7 of us agreed to participate. We call ourselves 'V-Slam'. Nothing much, just we need a name for our team.

We were there just to have fun.... We've managed to humiliate ourselves by losing to the eventual finalist in our first game... But we managed to win our next 2 games.... with the advise from a season paintballer...

So, there we were in the 2nd round but we only manage a draw and lose. Our day ends there.

:(((

Langkawi Trip - part III

30th May 2006

0830 hrs – Last day of the vacation and for the love of God, it’s raining. We had our last breakfast at Holiday Villa. The menu is the same except there is no pancakes. I was craving for ‘em. Not my day I guess.
We sit this time near an aquarium so that Haziq will be occupied with the fishes. More time for us to enjoy our breakfast and less disturbance from Haziq.

Had almost the same for my breakfast. Sausages, beef bacons, baked beans, yogurt (a couple of table spoons) and fruit cocktails. Also had croissant, and yup…. Cereals (a bowl of it, in fact) yummy… feeling like a kid again.
I ate varieties of foods in small portions. I just had to taste all of them except the fried rice.

After the breakfast, we w ent back to our rooms and it’s still raining.

0930 hrs – Starts packing and I had the bath-tub for myself.

1030 hrs – Still packing

1130 hrs – Finish packing and take a few pictures inside the hotel room for memories.

1145 hrs – Take everything and go to the lobby to check-out. Check-out time is 1200 hrs.

1155 hrs – I take the car, we load everything and went to town. We were looking for a panel clinic for Dhamirah. We found one – Klinik Keluarga in Jln Pandak Maya 5. Take Dhamirah to the clinic and the doctor says that the fever is ‘garing’, means very hot. This is the first I’m seeing a doctor using those high-tech gadget in the form of a tablet PC. Kewl….

1235 hrs – But mannnn….. Seeing the doctor takes a few minutes but waiting for the medicines is forever. Dhamirah receives 4 bottles of medicines. 1 for the fever, 1 for the antibiotic, 1 for the cough and 1 for the flu. Thankfully, Dhamirah have no problems with taking her medicines.

1300 hrs – We all are hungry but before that we bought the ferry tickets for the journey back, and after that we had our lunch at KFC. But the funny thing is there is another outlet with almost the same name – KLG. If you’re not careful you might be fooled. The neon sign & everything is almost the same. Reminds me of the film ‘Coming To America’ starring Eddy Murphy… The battle between Mc Donald’s & Mc Dowell’s. Almost made me laugh.

1400 hrs – We finish our lunch and went for our last minutes shopping. We went to buy some food stuff…. Nuts, etc. Those things are cheap in Langkawi. to buy some food stuff…. Nuts, etc. Those things are cheap in Langkawi.

1530 hrs - Fill the car with RM5 worth of petrol and I drove around the island (just the southern part) just to waste time.

1620 hrs - Return the car and get the deposit back... RM60 to be precise. RM20 earlier is for the rental. This one is for any damages on the car and thank God, no damage.

1630 hrs - Board the ferry and back to the mainland. The trip officially O.V.E.R. and so this entry.

Langkawi Trip - part II

29th May 2006

0900 hrs – Early morning (ahemmm….) we had our breakfast. Only I & the Mrs. really ate. The kids just… well.. play with their food. And my youngest just cannot get away from the fishes in the aquarium.. Keeps on saying.. ‘Bah, fish.. fish’. I just smiled to him.

I had 2 sausages, 2 pancakes, 2 slices of beef bacon, a glass (small one) of mango juice and some baked beans for starters. I am staying away from rice for the simple reason…. I ate rice for most of the times. Might as well have something different. For the next round I had some grilled/baked potatoes (small portion) & a couple of croissant and a bowl of apricot flavoured yogurt. Yogurt… big mistake… too much. I just cannot finish them. I had a cup of tea with milk. After that we went back to our room and get ready for the kids main event. The swimming pool.

1000 hrs – Presenting the main event, dip in the swimming pool. It is more like a ‘dipping’ marathon. We spent around 1 ½ hours at the pool. The kids had the most fun. And I had to watch over Haziq. A 3 year-old knows nothing about playing in the pool and mind you, it will be dangerous to him or any other kids for that matter. I’m sticking to him like ‘a cheap perfume on a tuxedo’.

Harith and Dhamirah, I just keep an eye on them. Not letting them out of my sight. One thing that I notice now is that Harith is more dependable nowadays. That a plus to me. I can ask him to get the pool towel which a long way from the kiddy pool. Save me the long walk.

1130 hrs – Back to our room. Getting ready for the next outing and doing that is not going to be easy. It’s going to take some time. We were ready at around 1300 hrs.

1300 hrs – We went out for our lunch and Dhamirah already saying that she is not feeling well. This ultimately will change our vacation plan in a big way. Went to Restoran Kampung Nelayan… the one near the Golf course. It is famous for its fish.
We had Siakap Masak Masam-Manis (Sweet-Sour), Ketam Sambal Telor (Crab) & Udang (Shrimp) & Sotong (Squid/Calamari?) Goreng Tepung.

It proves too much for me and the Mrs. I’m not sure why the Mrs. Ordered that much for the two of us and it is for our lunch. The kids are not much of an eater. We had to take to the hotel on the leftovers (for our dinner). I hate to waste on a perfectly good food.

We didn’t spend that much time on lunch as Dhamirah condition is getting worse. After eating we just head back to the hotel. The rest of the days were spent at the hotel. Resting.

At night, I had the chance to go out but only to the grocery store. To buy some sugar, ‘Coco-Crunch’ and a few other items. Then, we had our dinner. And our second day vacation ends here on a low note. Bummer.

Langkawi Trip - part I

28th May 2006

1410 hrs - The trip to Langkawi Island is becoming a sort of an annual hide-away cum holiday or is it the other way around for my family. This one is probably the 5th time I've been to the island. Why? The in-laws are in Kuala Kedah. About 10 minutes drive to the jetty. Transport to and from the jetty is not a problem. One less thing to worry about.

I am in the ferry when writing this log. The ferry keeps on rocking back & forth or rather side to side. On the last trip I throw up after disembarking at Langkawi Island. Yeah, luckily into the ocean.

The ferry is at 1.30 pm. and there is a commotion at the beginning. Nothing big, just some passengers get into the wrong ferry. I guess they were late. Luckily the afternoon ferry is not full unlike the late evenings. Those ferries are packed.

Inside the ferry is stuffy & I cannot feel the air-conditioning. Lots of kids & they are noisy (kids will be kids). Most of the adults are sleeping or reading the newspaper and minding their own business.

Almost 45 minutes into the ride on the ferry. I'm feeling a bit light-headed & dizzy. Hope that I'm not going to throw-up. Took Haziq from the Mrs. He's sleeping on my lap. Have a row of seats for ourselves until the kids sitting next to me came back from the rear of the ferry (is it the bow or the stern?). The Mrs, Harith and Dhamirah enjoying the ride; sleeping.

1530 hrs – Arrives at the Langkawi jetty after a long boat-ride. I’m not sure why ride is taking too much time. May be the ferry is damn slow. May be the weather. May be.

I was surprised when arriving at the jetty. The arrival hall is totally changed. It just had a make-over. Talk to the car rental people. They said the make-over is done early this year. Have a high-class look. More like an airport but on the outside it is still the same though.

First thing first. Get some wheels. Yeah, made some arrangement to rent a Proton Wira at the Kuala Kedah jetty (had to pay RM20 as deposit) for RM80 (24hrs) once in Langkawi. But it came no surprise to me the renter unable to get me a Wira at Langkawi. There is supposedly to be one Wira at Kondo Istana, but when we get there, someone else had hired it. It’s business. Once you had somebody to rent from you can do anything (remember the deposit!!!).

Then, they promised me a Kia Sephia. But have to wait for another 30 mins. Knowing visitors visiting the island, I know it’s the minimum time that I can get the car. It could be longer. The mrs do not wants to wait for the Sephia and we hired a Nissan Sentra for RM110. I know we are getting screwed.

The car is in drivable condition. But the tuning is way off. The automatic gear change is jerky. The engine indicator when you turned the key to ON is ON. (I think it should be off. If not, something wrong with the engine). Unlike last one we hired when we visited Langkawi. We get a brand new Sentra for RM80. Then again it is on the off-season. Now it is the school holidays and SUKMA (I’ll put something on the badminton finals later) is on-going in Kedah. Langkawi is venue for sailing.

Most of the cars in Langkawi are Nissans & Protons. I can see them everywhere. Cars are cheap in Langkawi. No taxes. Unlike in the mainland, to see a Honda in Langkawi is a rare sight. Even a Beemer & Merc. But I do see those new Mitsubishi Colt. A few of them infact.

1640 hrs – Next thing is the hotel registration. So I drove to Holiday Villa in Pantai Tengah after filling up on petrol. I took the long route (I think so) to Holiday Villa. I should’ve taken the route at the Restoran Kampung Nelayan junction. Took my time driving. Still trying to familiarize with the road. On thing for sure, you just cannot get lost in Langkawi. And car theft is not many (I think). How the hell are you going to take the car out of the island? May be in bits and pieces.

1730 hrs – Checked in at Holiday Villa. After resting for ½ hour we went out for our lunch+dinner.

1830 hrs – We went to eat at Mc Donald’s at the shopping complex near LADA. Do a bit of shopping and went back to the hotel for some R&R.

Replica...

I am not sure which craft is this. Is it Tie-Advance? Or somebody messed up?

This one I know... the X-Wing.

My office

Taken during a public holiday at night time...

Why? I have to work. Because of a system live implementation.

My 4th racquest.... phew... at last

It's a FISCHER....

Don't know why I bought this one.. an I love it..

Tried to put a 26lbs tension on the racquet.. but my arm hurts..
So back to 25lbs.

My third racquet

Still in usable condition....

The down side it.... can only go up to 24lbs on the string tension..
I don't dare to go any higher... Why?? Had a few clashes with my double partner
BTW, this one I bought from ahemmmmm...... source.
It cost a bundle on the market. Light as hell.

The second racquet....

An RSL

It's broken

My first badminton racquet that I bought

And it is crap..... used it for a few times... max string tension that I dare to put on the racquest ..... 22 lbs.
